How You Can Help

We welcome not only your financial contributions to Old Alabama Rails--which will be essential to make a strong start and to complete restoration of the site--but also your interest in what we are doing.

What can you do to help? Here's how you can be a part of the developing project, how you can make a unique contribution.

Tell us what you know--are you a retiree from one of the Montgomery railroads? Is someone in your family associated with any of these railroads? Do you have any railroad artifacts or WofA Shops artifacts that you'd like us to know about? The human side of the story from those who worked with the various railroads in Montgomery is the best way to tell about what happened there, about unique achievements and even about the humor of life at the shops. We welcome and solicit:

  • Your reminiscences of work for any of the Montgomery railroads, whether in maintenance or on the trains. We are also interested in those who worked in passenger operations out of Union Station. Whether you were or had an ancestor who was an engineer, conductor, Pullman porter, ticket agent, shop helper, gandy dancer, car man, shop foreman or machinist, we want stories, photos and/or names to help remember them and their work.
  • Contact information for those who have reminiscences and cannot send them
  • Artifacts from or related to the site, such as tools, maps, logs, documents--anything relevant to the shops and the work that went on there.
  • Railroading information particular to the Western of Alabama Location of or technical data/drawings of rolling stock related to the Western of Alabama.
