West Point Route
The Western Railway of Alabama: Page 3
By Robert H. Hanson

The West Point Route operated a number of passenger trains as part of a through route between New York and New Orleans. Among these were The Crescent and the Piedmont Limited. It also handled the Atlanta-Montgomery leg of mail train No. 97 of folk song fame during the brief life of this train.

The Western Railway of Alabama vanished as an operating entity on January 1, 1983, (although for legal reasons, the corporate shell still exists) when it was made part of the Seaboard System Railroad. On July 1, 1986, this company was merged into CSX Transportation, which currently serves Montgomery.
