Gordon Dunham

Biographical sketch:
Gordon Dunham is a freelance commercial and fine artist living in Minnesota specializing in murals and custom art work. While living in Arizona some years ago, Gordon re-discovered his interest in model railroading. Using his artistic skills, he soon focused on depicting realism in scenery, backdrop murals and painting and weathering of rolling stock, motive power and buildings in N scale.

On his techniques:
Gordon has refined his weathering techniques for depicting rust, dust and grime, chipped paint, alkaline and lime washes, or just about any other effect to achieve prototypical realism. He uses airbrushing mainly for base painting, clear coats, and some shading. Most of the weathering effects are accomplished with very fine-tipped brushes with numerous wet washes of artist acrylic paint, using mostly an earth tone palette, including umbers, siennas, yellow oxide, red oxide, white and black. He uses pastel chalks sparingly after the final clear coat.
